Welcome to Garner Park 60s Style

  • 12 Last Song0:00

Garner Park and music go together like ice cream and apple pie!  During the 60s there were many new  artists trying to get their music promoted.  Artists like  B.J. Thomas, Johnny Winter, Gene Thomas, Johnny Rodriguez, and C.L. and the Pictures are only a few examples.  Producers used the Garner State Park jukebox as a way to promote their artists music.  They knew there would be hundreds of kids attending the nightly dances at the pavilion and the kids would love these songs.  After the kids returned home, they called their local radian station and asked the D.J.s to play their favorite Garner song (I did that).  If the station didn't have the song, they would get it because of the popular demand.  Hearing Garner State Park mentioned on my local radio station in Corpus Christi would always get my attention.
